I Love Cake!

I was going through pictures on my computer this weekend looking for stuff to put up on the blog. I must have passed by about 5 pictures taken of me eating cake. My reputation as a cake lover has caused many of my cake eating moments to be documented. There are pictures of stand alone pieces of cake that I am about to eat, that I took to send to other cake loving friends hmmmm cake
there are pictures of me with my cake eating accomplice on several occasions just eating cake Me and some cake

I can’t tell you how much cake has been part of my life. I love it. I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That was until January 19th when we started our Biggest Loser contest at Boot Camps to Go.

We divided all the contestants into 3 teams with each of the trainers being a team leader. I knew that I needed something to help me get back in control with my own diet and exercise and this proved to me my chance. I am truly motivated by others. I wish I wasn’t like that, but I am.

My plan was to start counting calories to get an idea of how much I was eating. I thought my diet was pretty healthy but that maybe I was just eating too much. On top of that, I was getting almost no exercise. I was going to have 1 cheat day a week in which I would eat….you guessed it…cake. I figured I can endure anything if I knew I could have cake once a week.

The first week of counting calories was a rude awakening. Although I wasn’t eating anything considered unhealthy, it still added up to a lot more calories than I needed. The weekend came and I decided to wait one more week for my cake cheat meal.

After spending the next week resisting my Girl Scout cookie temptations, I decided to skip another cake cheat meal. The longer I went without sugar in my diet and the longer I resisted grabbing some sort of sugary treat, the weaker the urges to eat sugar became.

I am in the middle of my 6th week of our Biggest Loser contest, I have had maybe 4 days of really bad eating in that time. I have resisted my biggest obstacle and that is sugar, especially cake, I have gotten back into a habit of exercising a few times a week, although I know that is still not enough for me. I have not eaten food from my pantry except oatmeal and low fat popcorn, which means most of my food is fresh instead of processed. I am planning a head when I go out to eat and making healthier choices at restaurants.

There are many more changes I have made and experienced in the last 6 weeks of being part of this contest. Even if my weight loss isn’t huge, I know that I am making healthy habits that will last way beyond the end of our contest. After all, what good is it to do something so severe and crazy with your diet that you just gain all of it back as soon as you go back to normal eating and living?

I prefer to make healthy eating and exercising part of my life rather than a means to drop a lot of weight fast.

Now, if there were $250,000.00 involved……..

Thanks Laurel. Here we are… all struggling to resist temptation, and what do you do??? Put up a pic of a big ol’ piece of cake!!! I, too, am a cake lover, and I have done a pretty good job resisting it over the past couple months (even with my bday in there). But you’re not helping my cause. I think you’re just trying to sabotage us… again!!! : )
